CHRISTMAS 2011.... THE BIRTH OF A NEW TRADITION

CHRISTMAS 2011.... THE BIRTH OF A NEW TRADITION

As the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into
high gear, to provide Australians with monstrous piles of cheaply
produced goods --merchandise that has been produced at the expense of
Australian labor.

This year will be different. This year Australians will give the gift
of genuine concern for other Australians. There is no longer an excuse
that, at gift giving time, nothing can be found that is produced by
Australian hands. Yes there is!

It's time to think outside the box, people. Who says a gift needs to
fit in a shirt box, wrapped in Chinese produced wrapping paper?
If you are after lovely art work, hand-blown glassware, paintings, ceramics, sculptures and
Beautiful handmade jewelry please visit C Gallery's web site or go and have a look at their show room at 13A, 23 James St, Fortitude Valley. http://www.cgallery.com.au/

Everyone -- yes, EVERYONE, gets their hair cut. How about gift
certificates from your local hair salon or barber?

Gym membership, It's appropriate for all ages who are thinking about
some health improvement.

Who wouldn't appreciate getting their car detailed? Small owned
detail shops & car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or
a book of gift certificates.
For the gardeners on your list - how
about some lovely healthy pot plants, or plants for the garden, or even
a gift certificate from the local lawn mowing man.

Are you one of those extravagant givers who think nothing of plunking
down the Panasonic of a Chinese made flat-screen? Perhaps, that
grateful gift receiver would like his driveway sealed, or lawn mowed
for the summer, or games at the local golf course.

There are a bazillion owner-run restaurants, all offering gift
certificates. If your intended isn't the fancy eatery sort, what about
a half dozen breakfasts at the local cafe? Remember, folks, this isn't
about big National chains -- this is about supporting your home town,
with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open.

How many people couldn't use an oil change for their car, truck or
motorcycle, done at a shop run by the Australian working man?

What about a gift certificate from a local home handyman, for some
jobs to be done around the home?

Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mum? Mum would LOVE the services
of a local cleaning lady for a day.

Someone's computer could use a tune-up &, I KNOW I can find some
young guy who is struggling to get his repair business up & running.

OK, you were looking for something more personal. Local crafts
people spin their own wool & knit them into scarves. They make
jewelry, pottery & beautiful wooden boxes.
Have a look at http://www.cgallery.com.au/ for amazing Australian art work and Gifts.

Plan your holiday outings at local, owner-operated restaurants and
leave your server a nice tip. How about going out to see a play or
ballet at your hometown theatre?

Musicians need love too, so find a venue showcasing local bands.

Honestly, people, do you REALLY need to buy another 10,000 Chinese
lights for the house? When you buy a $5.00 string of light, about 50
cents stays in the community. If you have those kinds of bucks to
burn, leave the postman, garbo or babysitter a nice BIG tip.

You see, Christmas is no longer about draining Australian pockets, so
that China can build another glittering city. Christmas is now about
caring about Australia, encouraging our small businesses to keep
plugging away, to follow their dreams. When we care about other
Australians, we care about our communities & the benefits come back
to us in ways we couldn't imagine.
THIS is the new Australian Christmas tradition.

Why Art is important to a Home

At the end of the day a home is nothing but a blank canvas; it only becomes a HOME, when you start to fill it, with your own personal collection of pieces.
Pieces that allow you to stamp your own style and individuality to the space.
When you walk in your house and it has that level of meaning to you, then you are truly home and you can truly relax and be at peace and enjoy your creation. Yes, I said your creation.
You see, collecting art allows you to create your own, most important, giant work of art: your home environment. Living with art or living in a creative home can simply make you happy.
Art isn’t just a painting, it can take many forms: Hand Blown Glass, ceramics, timber and sculpture. Whatever medium ‘have to have’ art piece grace your personal space, dynamically connecting other items in a home, with compelling visual impact - which is YOU.

What is Dichroic Glass

Dichroic Glass is somewhat of a misnomer, since the dielectric coating that produces all the interesting colours is not glass at all, but a thin multi-layer coating of metal oxides and quartz crystals, with a total thickness of three to five millionths of an inch. It is produced by a highly technical vacuum deposition process.

This stack of the thin layers produce an “interference filter” commonly used in lens systems in the science world. Glass Artists now use glass coated in this way to create the varied and unique colour characteristics we see in pendants, rings and bracelets today.

In heating the Dichroic coating and bringing the glass to melting temperatures the coating crazes and the colour changes. This is a permanent colour shift and is dependent on temperature, exposure time and the number of re heats necessary to finish the piece. The coating that is created is very similar to a gemstone and the way these works of art catch the light and sparkle, has been compared to the brilliance of an Opal.

Art by Nature presented by JJArt and C Gallery - Gords

Gourds
Gourds grow on a vine similar to pumpkins however unlike pumpkins gourds when fresh cannot be eaten. They have a sour bitter taste.
Gourds are the world’s most versatile vegetable; the main purpose on the earth was to be used as water carrying and drinking vessels, bowls and cups. Other uses include swimming aids, buoys, and musical instruments, good omens, nesting boxes, ornaments or gifts.
Gourds are ancient and have been traced back to biblical times; they are still used today in some Third world countries in everyday life.
Gourds are truly amazing and dry out naturally leaving a hard wood like shell with only the seeds left inside.
There are two main varieties Ornamental s and Hard-shells.
Ornamental s: when fresh are the small coloured ones about the size of an apple. They will keep their colour for approximately 1-6 months and the colours range from white, yellow, green, orange and can be striped, warted or variegated. When they start drying your gourd will form spots of mold on the skin and the colour will begin to fade. This is normal and eventually your whole gourd will be covered in mold. Once dry they will last forever.
Hard-shell: gourds are the larger more practical gourds and have a much thicker shell. Their hard-shell makes them perfect to be used as containers and the vessels for crafting. They can be painted, burnt, carved, polished or stained. In fact, anything you can apply to timber can be applied to a gourd. Polished gourds require an occasional buffing with a soft cloth. Once gourds are dry they won’t shrink, rot or change shape.

Gourds are available from C Gallery starting from $20
